Modular Homes vs Manufactured Homes

Understanding the Difference Between Modular Homes and Manufactured Homes

Modular Homes

These types of homes are constructed off-site and are built inside a factory using strict quality control guidelines.

Then they are transported to a destination that you specify where it is then put together by local contractors.

Afterwards it is professionally inspected to ensure that it meets all state and regional requirements that allow you to live there.

These homes tend to be fixed in permanent locations once they are fully assembled unlike the manufactured home.

As a result they do tend to be a little more expensive although they are still drastically more cost efficient compared to conventional homes.

On the plus side these homes do continue to grow in value which is ideal for investment purposes.

Manufactured Homes

These are commonly known as mobile or trailer homes and are generally smaller compared to the modular homes. These are also constructed inside a factory and are then wheeled to an offsite location where

it will be set up and inspected in accordance with regulations. One main difference is that these are not placed on a permanent foundation which means they can be moved. Manufactured homes then are used more for recreational purposes as they offer the flexibility for mobility.

While these tend to cost significantly less compared to modular homes they do not retain any of its home value and always decrease in its equity. So which one you choose will ultimately depend on your current circumstances and what type of lifestyle you are most comfortable with.
